JAMMU, MARCH 23 (KNO) : Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council, Waheed Ur Rehman Parra today inaugurated the 2nd State Universities Sports Championship 2017-18 in which about 15 teams from different Universities across the state are participating in volleyball, Cricket, Football, Table Tennis, Badminton and Basketball matches .

Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof R.D Sharma, Director Sports and Physical Education University of Jammu, Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Controller Examination, Sanjeev Mahajan, NSS Coordinator University of Jammu, Prof. Jasbeer Singh, Dean Education and Director Distance Education, Prof. Darshana were present on the occasion. While addressing the participants on the occasion Parra said that sports help in fostering holistic development of an individual besides inculcating a sense of discipline, team spirit and togetherness.

“Sports are important to channelize the energies of students in a positive direction, ” he added. He further said it is the endeavor of government to provide requisite sports infrastructure and facilities to ensure maximum youth participation in sports activities to hone their talent.(KNO)
